how many of yall are actually into archery? i have looked at the hunting ?s and its all about guns! who shoots archery? what kinda bow? i have been shooting for 3 or 4 years and im getting pretty accurate and i have a good set up (gold tip arrows, bowtech diamond edge, cobra sight, and other stuff i don’t recall at the moment but they are good i know that haha) but i have problems with being stable in my stance. and i have a sablizer but its mostly there to absorb the shock. i want to try a longer one. do you think that would help? (im 14 and shooting a 35 lb. bow but fixing to get stronger limbs at christmas)

i shoot a 25 and 30lb self made longbow of elm and white oak with arrows of cherry and dogwood shoots. im small so i cant pull much weight. i like the satisfaction and feeling i get from shoot and handmade primitive bow like in the old times.
Smalltow,
Great Yahoo Answers question..
if you have a wrist strap. open your holding hand the one you hold the bow with. This will stop you from torquing your bow and throwing your arrow up, down ,left ,right. also if you have a rist strap on your release don`t hold the release by your hand use the strap and just touch the trigger when firing . This prevents torquing the arrow and making tighter groups . I have bow hunted and shot archery for over 40 years. and if you need help you can put me in your contacts and ask questions through email. Archery is exciting even if it doesn`t seem to be. Have fun hope this helps.
I use a Hoyt brand black widow 47 lb full recurve Bow without any sights on it.* I shoot instinctive.* No sights.* Its a real Deer slayer.*
Sounds as if you are doing good. LOL Keep shooting to help the stance. The longer sablizer is better for target shooting and bow shock or vibs. Short ones work good on hunting bows. Don;t shoot a bow that is to strong for you to shoot. Not any good if you can’t hit what you shoot at cause the bow is to hard to shoot. You can try opening up your stance, or closeing it up some. Find which one works well for you. shooting targets is a lot different than in a tree stand for a stance.Allways as you know do everything the same when you shoot. The grip, cant, release, follow through.Oh, one more thing, allways pick a spot on the target you are shooting at, and only see that spot you are shooting at. Hope this helps some.
I shoot target archery, Olympic style recurve. There are a few things you can do to stabilize yourself. First off are you shooting on an open field? Is the wind causing the instability?
Try opening your stance, most target archer will move their rear foot forward a tiny bit. This achieves two things, first, the offset will cause your body to be more stable to cross wind. Second, to get back into alignment you will need to twist slightly at the waist. This will engage your core muscles to again add to stability.
Another thing that will add to stability is to decrease your let off, if you’re holding the bow with an 80% let off, your muscles are too relaxed to stabilize the bow. This is the reason target compound shooters prefer bows with 65% let off.
A longer stabilizer do help with stability. And as the other poster suggested, use a sling and relax your bow hand. Let the sling catch the bow as you shoot it.
Longer stabilizer can be a hindrance when you hunt though.
