Be as consistent as possible with your form. ie draw length, arrow length & weight, anchor point, footing and breathing. Practice & more practice at various distances also helps. When aiming, focus on the smallest possible point, ie the dead centre of the target. Paitence & practice are the key. Hope this helps.

Certain other sports that uses the rhomboid and trapezius muscle groups will help to an extent. These are activities like rock climbing and rowing/crew. We have a couple of girls that are rowers, they excel much quicker than their other friends. I also know someone who is a rock climber, unlike the rest of us who have to shoot many hours continuously to maintain form, he can put his bow down for 4-6 months and pick it back up again with minimal loss in form.

The biggest hurdle in the beginning with archery is just knowing how to use the correct muscle to shoot. Most people can’t even feel these muscles, let alone isolate them for use. For myself, what got me going, is to do bent over shrugs. With dumbells in both hands, bend over at the waist, then concentrate on squeezing your shoulder blades together.
