I’ve been doing archery for a few years, not comepeteively but I know some good stuff. Personally I have a Martin bow, and they make pretty good stuff. I heard Browning also makes good stuff (compounds I mean, I think you use compounds in most competetive archery). Off the top of my head, I’m guessing a good compound will cost you anything from 200 to 400 dollars. I got my stuff at sportsmanguide.com (even though I don’t hunt) but you should probably go to an archery store near you and they’ll tell you everything you need to know about a good competetion bow. Hope this helps :)

It depends entirely on what type of competitive archery you want to compete in. If Olympic than you need a recurve, if field than either will be ok. Look at what the champions are using in the field of sport you want to compete in and get the same equipment if you can afford it. There is a lot of different brands out there and the top olympians also shoot a lot of different equipment. My recommendation is to go to your local archery store (not an all sporting goods store) that specializes in competitive archery products. Get measured for a bow and sign up for lessons while your getting the lessons try out the different types of bows ie Long bows, Recurves and Compounds and see which you like better. After you have had some lessons then you will be able to select the right bow for you, yourself.
